As any owner would, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan was hoping for a better start than the 1-3 record his team has provided, but he’s also well aware that there is a lot of football left to be played. When asked about his thoughts on how the 2020 season has gone Monday, Khan made it known that he’ll be making an evaluation on the team’s start more so than their finish.
“Well obviously, I think I’m very disappointed. I think being 1-3 at this point,” Khan said during the announcement of the Jags’ Lot J project. “Yesterday when I was leaving Cincinnati, I was reflecting on that. Then it dawned on me that two years ago we were 3-1 at this point and then you put it in perspective. It’s about life…not how you start but how you finish.”
At the rate the Jags are going, Khan could be looking at his sixth losing season if things don’t drastically turn around. Of course, there is always a chance that could happen but most would say it’s going to be an uphill battle when considering the state of the Jags’ defense. While their offense has been a bright spot, their comrades on the opposite end have been largely ineffective, allowing a completion percentage of 77%, good for worst in the league.

If the Jags are to turn things around, this week would be the one to start doing it as they travel to their divisional rivals in the Texans, who will be dealing with some issues of their own. With the team starting off the season 0-4, they fired their head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien Monday, leaving Romeo Crennel to take over in terms of running the team.
The media also asked Khan about one of the more controversial subjects associated with the Jags, and that is their commitment to the International Series. With them signing on to have one game a year in London, Khan decided to add an additional International game into the 2020 schedule.
However, the coronavirus pandemic stuck a fork in those plans. Additionally, the contract for their initial games in London expired this year, leaving many in the dark about Khan’s commitment to the International Series.
“We’ll see where we are, but at this point there’s nothing planned,” Khan said Monday. “I think I want to pursue whatever keeps football viable and important in Jacksonville.”
That certainly sounds like re-signing a deal could be on the table, but only time will tell if that’s the case. The veteran owner has expressed that the International Series rakes in significantly more cash than games played at home, and as a result, he’s used it as a crutch to help the team remain committed to Jacksonville.
