The Miami Dolphins’ Week 13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals was not one that came without cost. The Dolphins battled with the Bengals in a scrappy game that often saw the limits of gamesmanship pushed — with the Bengals and Dolphins both seeing players ejected from the game; including two of Miami’s best players in CB Xavien Howard and WR DeVante Parker. But in the end, Miami secured a 19-7 victory over the Bengals despite the absences of several standouts and pushed their record to 8-4 on the season.
The reports earlier this week indicated that despite ejections, no Miami Dolphins were at risk of collecting suspensions for their actions on the field Sunday. That has indeed materialized and Miami will brace for the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend with all players involved in scraps with the Bengals available to them.
But now, after further review, the NFL has passed down additional consequences for the Dolphins and Bengals’ chippy contest. The total body count of fines between both teams combined impressive, but the Dolphins carried the biggest number of fines. A grand total of four Dolphins were slapped with fines — with defensive tackle Christian Wilkins carrying the biggest individual fine.

Ironically enough, Wilkins was not a player ejected throughout Sunday’s game against Cincinnati. With the NFL discipline now handed down, the Dolphins can put the ugliness of Sunday’s win behind them. And presuming the Chiefs don’t resort to cheap shots on Dolphins players throughout this Sunday’s game (as Cincinnati did last weekend to badger the Dolphins into retaliation), odds are high we won’t see this kind of aftermath after Week 14. One parallel the Dolphins would certainly embrace between the two weeks?
A win. But that’s about where you’d draw the line — especially considering how strong coach Brian Flores’ messaging was after the game with his emphasis that he and the team must avoid taking measures that hurt the team, even when warranted.
