Seton Hall at St. John’s odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Seton Hall Pirates at St. John’s Red Storm odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Seton Hall Pirates (11-5, 2-4 Big East) visit the Big Apple to face the St. John’s Red Storm (10-6, 2-3) Saturday in a Big East battle. Tip-off at Madison Square Garden is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the Seton Hall vs. St. John’s odds and lines and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Seton Hall has lost back-to-back road games, falling at DePaul Jan. 13 and at Marquette Jan. 15, and has lost three straight against the spread (ATS). The Pirates are 7-8 ATS and 7-8 Over/Under (O/U) with the sixth-toughest schedule, according to USA TODAY’s Jeff Sagarin.

St. John’s has lost three of its past four games (2-2 ATS), including an 87-64 loss at Creighton Wednesday. The Johnnies are 6-10 ATS and 9-7 O/U with the 172nd-toughest schedule.

These teams split their two regular-season meetings last season, but Seton Hall beat St. John’s in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals.

Seton Hall at St. John’s odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

St. John’s 78, Seton Hall 74

Money line

SPRINKLE on ST. JOHN’S (+115) with the plan of betting more on the Johnnies plus the points.

St. John’s wing and Big East-leading scorer, SF Julian Champagnie, struggled immensely versus Creighton earlier this week, connecting on just 7 of 21 field-goal attempts. But I expect a bounce-back performance from Champagnie against a team he’s played well against.

Champagnie averaged 23.0 points per game (PPG) on 50.0% field-goal shooting and 6.0 rebounds per game in the two regular-season meetings with Seton Hall last season. St. John’s will go as far as Champagnie can take it this season.

Seton Hall will feel the loss of PF Sandro Mamukelashvili, who was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Mamukelashvili led the Pirates in scoring in all three games vs. the Johnnies last season, including a 32-point performance in Seton Hall’s 77-68 victory at home Dec. 11, 2020.

Again, SPRINKLE on ST. JOHN’S (+115) for a small wager if at all because the Johnnies’ spread is the sharper play.

Against the spread

Definitely BET ST. JOHN’S +1.5 (-105) heavier than or instead of the money line because this is a better spot for the Johnnies than the Pirates.

Seton Hall is 2-3 ATS on the road, 1-5 ATS versus Big East foes and 1-5 ATS in day games.

Since St. John’s hired head coach Mike Anderson before 2019-20, the Johnnies are 2-1 straight-up (SU) and 3-0 ATS at home versus Seton Hall.

ST. JOHN’S +1.5 (-105) is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

PASS.

St. John’s plays at the fastest pace and averages the most PPG in the Big East and Seton Hall should be able to get easy second-chance points since the Johnnies are a bad rebounding team.

However, the Pirates are 1-4 O/U on the road, the Johnnies are 1-5 O/U in their last six games versus teams with a winning record and the Under has cashed in four straight Seton Hall-St. John’s meetings.
