With the Philadelphia 76ers in the process of a roster overhaul as they prepare for the 2020-21 season, one of their big additions was adding Seth Curry in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks. He shot 45.2% from deep in Dallas and his fit on the team should be beneficial moving forward.
Playing in between two stars such as Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid will be very helpful for the team in the future as they desperately need somebody to space the floor and allow the two stars to get to work on offense. The impact that Curry can have on their offense should be huge for them to get back in the right direction.
Simmons, in particular, has a knack for finding open shooters from deep as he is one of the leaders in 3-point assists in the league. It is that huge aspect of the game that has Curry excited.
“First of all, he’s a good player, man,” Curry said with a smile. “He’s one of the best guys in this league on both sides of the ball. When he gets downhill, nobody can really stay in front of him 1-on-1 so that means you got to bring help and put two guys in front of him to stop him from getting layups so that’s where guys like myself and Danny and other guys we brought in can help him out as far as creating space for him to drive and knocking down shots when he creates plays for other people.”
Having a knockdown shooter play next to Simmons is going to be a huge factor for Philadelphia this season as there will be much more room to operate on offense. In the 2019-20 season, the fit of having Al Horford and Josh Richardson on the floor had a negative impact on them offensively. Both Horford and Richardson are still fine players in this league, but they don’t provide the shooting that Simmons and Embiid need to operate.
Curry went as far as to say the fit is perfect.
“I feel like me and him are a perfect match in the sense that he’s a bigger ball-handler who can make plays and defend multiple positions,” he added. “I’m a small scorer who spreads the floor, shoots, can score in multiple ways, and defend smaller guys at the point guard so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Seth Curry says he and Ben Simmons are a “perfect match” on the court together. Simmons is obviously a terrific passer and having a guy like Curry knock down shots is going to make life easier on the floor. #Sixers

On the night he was traded to Philadelphia, Curry immediately began thinking about fit. He knows why the Sixers brought him on to the team and that is to shoot the ball. That is why he is so excited to be on this team for the foreseeable future.
“My initial thought was just basketball,” he finished with. “How does the basketball part of it fit? I was excited about it. I know, obviously, they have two guys in Ben and Joel who draw a lot of attention. They just go in the paint and they are willing passers, they’re unselfish, so a guy like myself can complement those guys really well as far as spreading the floor.” [lawrence-related id=39478,39469,39466]
