The Vikings already had a premier young edge rusher in Danielle Hunter. On Monday, Minnesota made it official: the team had acquired another one.
Yannick Ngakoue arrives to the Vikings via trade. Similar to Hunter, he’s also 25 and also great at getting to the quarterback.
CBS Sports clearly likes what it sees. The outlet ranked the edge rushing duo of Hunter and Ngakoue the second-best in the NFL. Here’s what it said about the choice:
“Yes, really. Hunter is criminally underrated and a true physical freak. Ngakoue isn’t as imposing against the run, but you don’t rack up 37.5 sacks in four years by accident. The youth and upside are just a bonus. This could be a No. 1-worthy pairing in a year or two.”
Second isn’t bad, especially considering how young the two starters are. Add in the fact that Minnesota still has Ifeadi Odenigbo, and the Vikings pass rush is looking real good for the foreseeable future.
