The Lakers opened the 2020-21 season on Tuesday night at the Staples Center with a game against the Clippers, but before the action began, the reigning NBA champs received some truly remarkable hardware.
The Lakers opted not to raise a championship banner on Tuesday night, and will instead wait for fans to be able to return to the Staples Center to hold a banner ceremony. The team did hold a touching, socially distanced ring ceremony, where each player retrieved their ring from a separate podium instead of receiving a traditional handoff from commissioner Adam Silver.
Each ring includes the numbers of every player on the Lakers roster, the results of each series in the playoffs, and the message “Leave A Legacy.” According to ESPN, the rings from Jason of Beverly Hills include 804 stones in total.
