See Deshaun Watson’s letter to the city of Houston after signing colossal long-term contract

Deshaun Watson thanked his mom and the fans in Houston after inking a contract extension with the Texans.

Texans coach and GM Bill O’Brien has been widely criticized for his roster moves in recent years, but with just a few days before the regular-season kicks off, Texans fans got some great news – superstar quarterback Deshaun Watson is staying in Houston long-term.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that Watson and the Texans have agreen to a four-year contract extension worth $160 million, which will keep Watson with the Texans through 2025. The deal includes $111 million in guarantees, per ESPN, and is the second biggest deal in NFL history, behind only Patrick Mahomes’ contract with the Chiefs. Watson, who is still only 24, will have another chance at a massive payday before he turns 30.

After the news broke, Watson posted an open letter to the Texans organization, his family and fans on Twitter.

“As a child growing up in Georgia, it was always my dream to play in the NFL. Today, I couldn’t be more honored and humbled to sign a long-term deal in Houston, the city that I’ve grown to love so much and now call my home.

That’s to Cal, Janice, the entire McNair family, Coach O’Brien, Jack Easterby and the whole Texans’ organization for helping to make my dream a reality. Special thank you to all my teammates, past and present, for believing in me and helping me grow as both a player and person.

I’m so grateful to my mom, who is and has always been my rock and showed me anything is possible. She instilled in me at an early age that no matter the circumstances and obstacles you must endure and keep going. Thank you to my brothers and sister who have seen the worst time and the best times with me and never lost hope. My entire family, coaches, friends and mentors who have supported me along the way – I wouldn’t be here without you.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to the best fans in the NFL. I promise to do everything can to not only bring a championship to this great city but also leave a legacy of helping positively impact this community.”
