SEC Tournament Preview: Florida faces South Carolina in opening round

Single-elimination game today against a familiar opponent.

Florida baseball enters the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Tuesday as a No. 7 seed set to face the No. 10 seed South Carolina Gamecocks in the opening round on Tuesday at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators and the Gamecocks just wrapped up a three-game weekend series in Hogtown, with the home team taking two of three though the visitors seized the momentum by winning the final matchup on Sunday.

It has been a very disappointing season for head coach [autotag]Kevin O’Sullivan[/autotag]’s squad, which managed to finish at the .500 mark in conference play this spring with a 15-15 record while going 35-20 overall. Florida had three of its players named to All-SEC teams recently, though Jud Fabian, who returned to school after turning down a lucrative contract with the Boston Red Sox, failed to make the list.

On Tuesday it is do-or-die for the Gators as the loser of the game goes home in the single-elimination bracket. The winner gets to move on to face the No. 2-seeded Texas A&M Aggies in College Station in the second-round double-elimination game.
