SEC reportedly considering expanding basketball schedule to 20 games in 2025-26

The SEC is currently the only power conference that plays an 18-game league basketball slate.

We’re entering a year of significant change in the SEC with the league expanding to 16 teams as Texas and Oklahoma join the fold.

So far, we haven’t seen many changes to how conference scheduling works, with the football schedule remaining at eight games and the men’s basketball schedule at 18 heading into the 2024-25 athletics season.

However, the former has been the subject of conversation regarding potential expansion, and now the latter could be as well. According to a report from Jon Rothstein for College Hoops Today, the league has been having discussions centered around expanding the schedule to 20 games for the 2025-26 season.

Rothstein stressed however that his sources say it is “too early” to say whether an expanded schedule will actually be enacted. Currently, the SEC is the only power conference that does not play a 20-game basketball schedule.
