It’s no secret LSU is battling against many doubters prior to the upcoming season, but SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic has high expectations for the Tigers in 2021.
The LSU football team was at the top of their game in 2019 going 15-0 and winning the NCAA national championship, but that narrative was a complete opposite for the Tigers in 2020.
From suffering a surprising season-opening loss to Mississippi State to facing their first losing season in over 20 years, LSU knew they had to make a number of adjustments for the 2021 season to turn things around.
The Tigers were able to finish the 2020 stronger than they began, many spectators still have questions regarding LSU’s success rate for the upcoming season. Some of the questions include how the Tigers will respond under new offensive leadership, who will be the starting quarterback, and whether or not the 2019 season was an anomaly.
Although fans have their doubts, many experts including Cubelic feel pretty confident in this new and improved Tiger roster. In fact, Cubelic has the Tigers finishing second in the SEC West behind Alabama.
He says there’s no doubt in his mind Alabama will come in first place in the SEC, but he believes LSU will have no issue proving the doubters wrong.
The SEC Analyst does believe, however, the Tigers will be fighting a tough battle for second place with Texas A&M, and he believes the two could be interchangeable as the season progresses.
He says the next “biggest threat” could be Ole Miss whose offense is expected to give defensive coordinators “nightmares”.
The biggest takeaway from Cubelic’s predictions is his idea that this year he expects a sense of “normalcy” from the SEC with Alabama and LSU as the top contenders. It should be an exciting season.
