Former Washington Huskies offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s move just got a whole lot easier. After spending two years in Seattle with the Huskies, Grubb will not be following Kalen DeBoer, who took the head coaching job at Alabama after Washington’s loss to Michigan in the national championship game.
Now, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Grubb is slated to become the new Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald. During his two years on Montlake, Grubb coordinated the Huskies to the No. 1 passing offense in 2022 and the No. 2 passing offense in 2023. Grubb’s offenses were also ranked inside the top 15 in scoring in both of his years calling plays.
According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Grubb might not be the only member of DeBoer’s staff at Washington sticking around the city either. Wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard and offensive line coach Scott Huff are rumored to be in consideration for the Seahawks’ open coaching positions due to their familiarity with Grubb and since they, like Grubb, wouldn’t have to relocate.

This could also move a few former Huskies up on general manager John Schneider’s draft board, as the Seahawks have needs along on the interior of the offensive line and could be in the market for a quarterback soon. Grubb’s familiarity with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and offensive lineman Troy Fautanu could tempt Seattle’s front office into drafting one of the two with the No. 16 pick in the NFL Draft.
