Sean Payton takes blame for Bo Nix’s interception: ‘My fault’

“That was my fault, that call was not good,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of Bo Nix’s second interception agains the Browns.

Leading the Cleveland Browns by six points in the fourth quarter of Monday’s game, the Denver Broncos were aggressive and threw a deep pass intended for Marvin Mims on first down.

Broncos quarterback Bo Nix had his pass intercepted by Browns cornerback Denzel Ward and Cleveland went on to kick a field goal off the turnover.

After the game, Denver coach Sean Payton was asked about the interception.

“That was my fault, that call was not good,” Payton said. “There is a poise about that group. We did not set ourselves back with minus plays really like we maybe had in the first half. It was a key moment where we were at, down one point in the game.”

As Payton noted, Nix and the offense bounced back from the turnover and the Broncos went on to win the game 41-32. It was perhaps not a good decision from Nix, but Payton took blame for the play call. The coach continues to have his quarterback’s back.
