Sean Payton on Broncos QB Bo Nix: ‘This guy is going to be something’

If Bo Nix gets the right support from coaches and teammates, “this guy is going to be something,” coach Sean Payton said on Sunday.

After Bo Nix struggled in his first two games in the NFL, Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton noted that the rookie quarterback needed more help from his teammates, and a better plan from the coaching staff.

Nix appeared to take a big step forward in Week 3, completing 69.4% of his passes for 216 yards with no sacks and no turnovers in a 26-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Nix also rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

Following the game, Payton emphasized once again that if the Broncos set Nix up for success with their scheme and support from teammates, the quarterback will become a special player.

“I say this, and I mean this, and it’s so important, and I include myself and the offensive coaching staff — it’s our job to paint a perfect picture for this player,” Payton said. “And if we do that, and we used to say that about whoever is under [center] — our job as coaches, as receivers… we have to paint the picture, and when we do that, this guy is going to be something.”

Sunday appeared to be a huge step forward for Nix. Now he needs to show consistency going forward. Payton seems to believe the quarterback is on the right track with a good game plan and better execution from teammates.
