Sean McVay wants to keep getting TE Gerald Everett the ball

This doesn’t bode well for those who have Tyler Higbee in fantasy football.

The Rams tight end to draft in fantasy football this year was Tyler Higbee. After a historic December last year, Higbee emerged as one of the top tight end options in fantasy. And in the first two weeks, he caught eight passes for 94 yards and three touchdowns.

He’s gone cold since then, and thanks to Gerald Everett, it might be tough for him to heat up significantly. Everett only has eight catches for 141 yards this season, but it’s only 25 fewer yards than Higbee has despite being targeted eight fewer times.

Sean McVay’s comments on Everett won’t make those who have Higbee on their fantasy rosters feel any better, either. After saying before the season that he wanted to get Everett more involved, McVay has doubled down by saying he wants that to continue.

“He’s a big-time, versatile playmaker that enables you to really be in multiple personnel groupings because of his versatility in your two tight end sets where he can play that fullback, he can detach from the core, and he can align in the core. So, he gives you a lot of flexibility. He’s a guy that I mentioned to you guys, wanted to get more involved. I thought he made the most of his four touches in a lot of different ways. And, you know, he’s a guy that we’ve got to continue to get involved. I thought he did a great job last week and look to see more of that moving forward.”

On Sunday in Washington, Everett had his best game of the season. He caught four passes for 90 yards, three of which came on third down. He was outstanding after the catch, gaining 71 of those 90 yards after hauling in the pass. He broke three tackles in the open field, too, which is tied for second-most among tight ends this season – and tied for 12th among all players in 2020.

The Rams have been using two-tight end packages more often this year, which has helped Everett earn playing time, and that’s unlikely to change much with the way the offense has been rolling.

It’s not time to dump Higbee in fantasy, but Everett’s presence certainly factors into the equation and hurts No. 89’s value.
