Sean McVay: Kyren Williams is the type of player ‘we want in this building’

Sean McVay had some great things to say about Kyren Williams as a player and a person

Changes are on the way at running back for the Los Angeles Rams. Though Cam Akers hasn’t yet been traded, the expectation is that he will. Rookie Kyren Williams is also working his way back from an ankle injury suffered in Week 1 and figures to have a decent role when he does return. He practiced for the first time since the season opener and will be activated within the next 21 days.

Sean McVay is excited about Williams’ potential, but what he really likes is his work ethic and dedication to football. During his media session on Wednesday, McVay mentioned that Williams represents the “types of players and kinds of guys that we want in this building.”

“He’s a pro. He’s mature beyond his years. You could see that just watching him at Notre Dame from afar,” McVay said. “You can see how important the game is to him. He’s smart, conscientious, and I think he represents a lot of the things that you want from Rams types of players and kinds of guys that we want in this building. It’s been unfortunate, the couple setbacks that he’s had, but I’ve seen a guy that’s been unfazed. He hasn’t flinched. I do know that when he gets his opportunities, I expect him to be able to do what he does and that’s play good football.”

We can’t definitively say that was a dig at Akers, and McVay raved about his work ethic last year after he returned from a torn Achilles, but Williams has caught the coach’s eye for all the right reasons – and McVay is letting it be known.

Williams has had terrible injury luck so far, breaking his foot in OTAs and injuring his ankle on his first special teams snap of the regular season. So he has yet to take a carry or play an offensive snap, but the Rams have high hopes for him.
