Sean McVay had some Rams fans in a panic this offseason after he expressed interest in potentially leaving coaching for a job on TV analyzing NFL games. He admitted thatâs something he would like to do some day, and even set up a meeting with Amazon to potentially discuss a deal.
And according to one report, Amazon may have gone as high as $100 million for five years. That would be a raise from what heâs currently making, but it still isn’t close to what Tom Brady will get from FOX after he retires.
Brady will be FOXâs lead analyst and his contract is worth $375 million for 10 years. After being asked about his return to coaching on The Rich Eisen Show, McVay joked that maybe he shouldâve thought twice upon seeing Bradyâs deal.
âWell, Iâll tell you what, seeing Tom Bradyâs potentially new deal, I’m thinking, âWhat the hell am I doing coming back to coaching right now?ââ he said.
McVay then elaborated and said he couldnât be more excited to be the head coach of the Rams still, while once again expressing interest in jumping to the booth when his career on the sidelines is over.
âNo, it was never anything â letâs put it this way, I love coaching so much,â he continued. âI think it was a fun narrative, but if you look at the entirety of what I had said, the question was asked if I was going to be a lifer in coaching and then I elaborated on, I donât know if I see myself doing this until I’m 70 or so because I feel like I’m 36 going on 80 some days. I sure love it, but how long Iâll do it? I donât know. I couldnât be more excited about this season, working with our players and coaches. But if you said down the line, is that something youâre interested in? I think thereâs no question about it. But I couldnât be happier coaching ball right now.â
The Rams are working on a contract extension with both McVay and Les Snead, which will keep him in Los Angeles for the immediate future. The length of McVayâs deal will be something to watch because if itâs only for, say, three years, he might have TV plans sooner rather than later.
