Sean McVay got an earful from his mom for his language on ‘Hard Knocks’

Sean McVay “got a good ear-lashing” from his mom for his foul language on “Hard Knocks.”

Sean McVay has been one of the stars of “Hard Knocks: Los Angeles” through the first two episodes, even though he was worried about coming off as a “total tool” for taking his shirt off in the premiere. His coaching style and connection to Rams players has been on full display in the first two weeks, showing what makes him such a great leader in L.A.

There is one thing he wants to improve on, though: his language. The 34-year-old coach said on the “Hard Knocks: Los Angeles Podcast” with Peter Schrager that he heard it from his mom about his foul language on the first episode of the show.

“I got a good ear lashing from my mom about some of my language. But other than that, we watched it at home and it was definitely interesting, to say the least,” he said.

His dad tried to warn him before the show started filming that he should watch his language, but McVay joked that his dad didn’t know what he was talking about.

“That was the one thing. When my mom and dad came out here – they’re such great parents, I love them so much – and when it became known that we were going to do this, my dad said, ‘Hey Sean, you should really watch your language. You just want to be careful. I said, ‘Dad, you don’t know what the eff you’re talking about.’”

In McVay’s defense, the show is on HBO and not basic cable, but even so, he knows he could probably clean things up.

“You just want to make sure, though. Some of the little kids and stuff. I do need to watch it, I’ve got to be a little bit more mindful of it. I’m just around these guys, you get comfortable with it, but I could probably tone it down,” he said.

Schrager pointed out that McVay isn’t swearing at any of his players or coaches in the show, but rather just cursing in the heat of competition and practice.

“You know me, that’s not who I am,” McVay replied. “I’m not like that. But you could say you have the same effect without the language but I would imagine this next episode is not a step in the right direction.”

The third episode of “Hard Knocks” will air on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
