Sean McVay ends Rams’ virtual offseason program, sets camp target dates

Sean McVay doesn’t expect any players to be limited by injury when camp begins.

After about a month and a half of Zoom meetings and conference calls, Sean McVay has seen enough from his team. McVay announced on a conference call Thursday that he’s ending the Rams’ virtual offseason program.

This comes on the same day that the NFL extended the program through June 26, if teams wanted to go that long. McVay clearly doesn’t, saying his team has made enough progress to feel good about ending it early.

Not to mention, he’s pretty much had enough of video calls, which can be exhausting when you’re holding them for a few hours several days per week. He’s looking forward to getting back on the field, whenever that is.

Coaches are allowed to return to their respective facilities as of last week, and the Rams were reportedly opening their building to coaches on an optional basis June 15. It doesn’t seem like McVay will be among the coaches reporting that day, though, as he’s content with working from home.

As for training camp, no one knows exactly when that will take place. McVay doesn’t have a set timeline for it to begin, primarily because the coronavirus pandemic has created a level of uncertainty not felt in a long time.

However, McVay did set two target dates for players to report to camp: July 23 for rookies and July 28 for veterans.

McVay said he doesn’t anticipate any players being limited when they do report to camp. Darrell Henderson is still rehabbing an ankle injury that landed him on IR late last year, but he’s expected to be a full-go. He even said he’d be fine to practice right now if the Rams were to take the field.

McVay said there were no last-minute surgeries or anything this offseason, with everyone on track to practice when camp does begin.
