Sean Marks: Kevin Durant wasn’t involved in recruitment of Michael Beasley

Sean Marks signed Kevin Durant’s friend, Michael Beasley, without the help of the Brooklyn Nets superstar.

It’s well-documented that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are good friends. Same goes for DeAndre Jordan and Durant.

But the newest member of the Brooklyn Nets, Michael Beasley, has been pals with the superstar longer than both Jordan and Irving.

One of multiple current and former professional basketball players featured in Durant’s documentary about his hometown in Maryland, “Basketball County: In the Water,” Beasley grew up playing the game with the 2013-14 NBA MVP. So, it reasonable to think Durant could’ve played a part in the Nets going after Beasley.

However, that as not the case.

Nets general manager Sean Marks informed reporters on a Zoom call on Thursday that Durant didn’t have a hand in the pursuit or signing of Beasley, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

I don’t think it’s fair to call Kevin on every single thing we do … It’s well-documented these two are close but we’re looking at best available and talent. Michael certainly is that.

Beasley officially became a member of the Nets on Thursday. Brooklyn is also reportedly close to a deal with Jamal Crawford.
