The Seattle Seahawks are at home licking their wounds following three consecutive primetime losses. At 2-5 their season has imploded, but they will get a little bit of a potential reprieve on Sunday. Seattle will host the flailing Jacksonville Jaguars, which might just be what the doctor ordered.
The Jaguars were the worst team in the NFL last year and “earned” the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. So far this season it remains evident why they had such a dubious honor. Losers of 20 of their last 22 games, the Jaguars are still firmly in the league’s basement.
Unfortunately, the Seahawks aren’t that far of them without Russell Wilson in the lineup. For the first time since 2011, Seattle will be playing in an utterly meaningless game between two borderline unwatchable teams.
The Jaguars know this is a rebuilding year, and as such each game is just an opportunity to grow. For the Seahawks, Sunday presents the final opportunity for them to show any sign of a pulse before the byeweek and the difficult stretch of games afterwards.
Prediction: Seahawks over Jaguars 24-23
The Jaguars are a bad team, but they’ve managed to stay competitive in most of their games this season. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if they keep it tight with a struggling Seahawks squad, especially considering Seattle’s porous defense.
This team is as desperate as they come. With all hope of an NFC West title lost, Seattle is playing for a long-odds second half push to sneak in as a Wild Card. But in order to do that, they have to stay afloat with Geno Smith at the helm. So far they have been unsuccessful, but now they face their most beatable opponent yet.
It feels strange to say a Sunday afternoon game against perhaps the worst team in football is a must-win, but it absolutely is. If they cannot find a way to defend their home turf from the Jaguars, it’s officially the final nail in the coffin.
