Seahawks vs. 49ers: Keys to a must-win matchup in Week 4

The Seahawks desperately need a win today against the 49ers otherwise their entire season will be on the line Thursday night against the Rams.

The Seahawks desperately need a win today against the 49ers otherwise their entire season will be on the line Thursday night against the Rams.

Here are a couple of keys to the game to avoid a 1-3 start.

Offense: Value your time

Seattle’s offense has been explosive and efficient this year. It’s also inconsistent and pretty-much non-existent in the second half of games. The Seahawks rank dead last in time of possession heading into Week 4 despite ranking second in DVOA on offense. OC Shane Waldron has to find a way to extend drives without sacrificing the big chunk plays that have been successful so far. He’ll also need to make better adjustments after halftime.

Defense: Try something different

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. If the Seahawks continue to stay the course on defense they’ll be certifiable by the end of the day. Personnel wise, coach Pete Carroll and defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. have to switch up their cornerback rotation and give guys like Darrell Taylor and Alton Robinson more snaps. Schematically, they have to be more aggressive in general and find a way to get Jamal Adams involved.
