Seahawks stopped an inch short, Packers settle for No. 2 seed in NFC

An inch separated the Green Bay Packers from securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

An inch or two separated the Green Bay Packers from securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

The Seattle Seahawks nearly completed an incredible comeback against the visiting San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night but came up heartbreakingly short.

Seahawks tight end Jacob Hollister was ruled down inside the 1-yard on 4th-and-goal with six seconds left and the Seahawks trailing by five points, allowing the San Francisco 49ers to escape with a win and the No. 1 seed

The Packers, who needed a loss or tie from the 49ers, will settle the No. 2 seed.

Matt LaFleur’s team will now face the highest-seeded team remaining in the NFC Divisional Round in two weeks at Lambeau Field. That game is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 12 at 5:40 p.m. CST. The highest-seed team going into the NFC Wild Card round will be the 13-3 New Orleans Saints.

If both the Packers and 49ers win in the divisional round, the Packers would have to go to San Francisco for the NFC title game in a rematch of a November matchup at Levi’s Stadium.
