It looks like Jarran Reed will continue his NFL career in Seattle. On Monday, it was announced that the former Alabama defensive lineman would be re-signing with the Seahawks.
Several media personalities announced the news via Twitter, but Tom Pelissero with NFL.com had an interesting take on the length of the new deal, which was only two-years:
The #Seahawks are re-signing DT Jarran Reed to a two-year, $23 million contract, source said. Short deal that gets a good player back to the market at age 29.

Reed was in the same draft class (2016) as former teammate A’Shawn Robinson, who also just signed a deal with a team from the NFC West.
With that said, Robinson will only be 25 years old in a few days. Reed, however, will be 28 in December of this year. The reason for the difference comes down to a JUCO stint Reed had prior to arriving at Alabama.
Either way, the argument could be made that Reed has been the more complete presence since joining the NFL ranks, and for that reason, he is making $6 million more over the two years than Robinson.
Reed was suspended for six games to start last season, which hurt his overall production (27 tackles, two sacks). He did, however, produced his first double-digit sack season in 2018 when he posted 10 sacks in 16 regular season games.
The hope is that Reed can continue that growth over the near couple of seasons, which could help land him one more big pay day before his playing career comes to an end.
