Seahawks home games vs Cards are always ugly

Seahawks home games vs Cards are always ugly

The Seattle Seahawks grinded out a sloppy, 20-10 defensive victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Although it wasn’t the prettiest, the reaction from the 12’s all seems to be the same: happy to do enough to win. This of course is the correct reaction, because when it comes to home games against the Cardinals, the only thing that truly matters is surviving for a win.

When folks think about arch NFC West rivals for the Seahawks, the 49ers and Rams always come first to mind, with good reason. But which division foe actually has the most wins of any team in the NFL not named the Seahawks at Lumen Field? It’s Arizona, who has nine victories at the venue.

It doesn’t matter if the Cardinals are a bottom feeder or competing for a top seed in the playoffs, for whatever reason they are a tough nut to crack when they visit the Pacific Northwest. Sunday marked the first consecutive years the Seahawks have beaten Arizona at home since 2010-11.

Including yesterday’s game, let’s take a look back at the last eleven matchups between these two teams:

  • 20-10 win
  • 19-9 win
  • 23-13 loss
  • 28-21 win
  • 27-13 loss
  • 27-24 win
  • 26-24 loss
  • 34-31 loss
  • 39-32 loss
  • 19-3 win
  • 17-10 loss

Even some of the more conventional scores like 34-31 or 28-21 always had some kind of bizarre turnover, or brutal missed field goal, or uncommon way to get to those point totals. These games are rarely straightforward.

The only time a Seahawks vs Cardinals game at Lumen Field wasn’t a sloppy affair for Seattle was in December 2012 when they decimated Arizona 58-0 during the rise of the Legion of Boom. Not only is that game a historic outlier in this rivalry, it’s an outlier for the Seahawks franchise as a whole.

So take solace in a win any way they come, friends. As one can see, they don’t come as often as you’d think at home against the Cardinals.
