The Seattle Seahawks have signed a familiar defensive end back to the roster but his name is not Jadeveon Clowney. Seattle has now officially announced Benson Mayowa is under contract, a move that was first reported last week.
Mayowa first joined the Seahawks in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Idaho. After one season in Seattle, he spent time with the Raiders (two stints) the Cardinals and the Cowboys.
His one-year deal is reported to be worth over $3 million fully guaranteed, with up to another million in incentives, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Mayowa joins defensive end Bruce Irvin as former Seahawks who have been re-signed to the roster from other teams, reuniting in Seattle. Both of these moves don’t necessarily rule out a return for Clowney, however, it shows the Seahawks aren’t just going to sit idly by while he continues to test the open market.
