The Seattle Seahawks have responded to their first losing season in 10 years with a series of drastic moves that will fundamentally reshape the franchise.
On Tuesday, the team agreed to send nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson to the Broncos in exchange for a handful of draft picks and three players. While the haul isn’t bad the odds are that they’ll be taking a major step back at the QB position this year. The one upgrade they might get is tainted – even though Deshaun Watson will not face any criminal charges pursuing a trade for him will almost certainly alienate a large number of fans.
Worst of all, the Seahawks unceremoniously released middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, a franchise icon who is universally loved by the fanbase – making him the latest in a series of stars to leave the team on bad terms. Wagner never flipped off Pete Carroll like Earl Thomas, never held out like Kam Chancellor and never embarrassed his coaches like Richard Sherman – and they still did him dirty.
As you might imagine, Seattle fans are about as unhappy as they’ve ever been right now. Here’s how they’re tweeting through a terrible week of news about their team.
