Seahawks coach Pete Carroll turned 70 years old on Wednesday. His energy and passion for football has helped inspire his team to be about as successful as any in the NFL over the last decade. Carroll’s relentless positivity doesn’t go over well with everyone, but it never wavers – this is who he is.
That hopefulness extends beyond the field, as well. Despite a raging pandemic, a divided society and a minacious Fascist movement on the prowl, Carroll is cheerful about the future of this country. Here’s what he had to say about it as he turns the chapter, per the team website.
“I don’t think that there’s enough people that are trying to drag things down, I don’t think there’s enough of them, I think they’re too many people that are trying to uplift. I think we are going to outlast them and we’re going to outwait them, and it’s going to make others join in, and we are going to look after people better than we are, take care of one another better than we are. People that have are going to help people that don’t, and we are going to get more powerful. I think our leadership is standing for that even though it isn’t always recognized. The President knows what he’s doing in terms of passing the right message for the right reasons. He’s looking after and he’s caring for, and we are going to outlast them, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”
You don’t have to share Carroll’s optimism to be inspired by it. We’d like to wish the coach a happy birthday and sincerely hope that he’s right.
