Seahawks at Texans: Week 14 preview and prediction

Can the Seahawks keep the good times rolling for one more week?

The Seattle Seahawks are fresh off their exhilarating Week 13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Now they travel south to take on the Houston Texans.

This year has not been what many predicted the Seahawks would have and has most certainly fallen far short of their expectations. But now they play one of the few teams who has unquestionably had it worse than them in the Texans. At 2-10, the Texans are tied with the Jaguars for the worst record in the AFC.

Unfortunately for Houston, there is a little more insult to injury. As it stands, the Texans are the only team that has been officially eliminated from postseason contention.

Yes, even the 3-9 Jets, the similarly 2-10 Jaguars and the 1-10-1 Detroit Lions are still (strictly) mathematically viable for the playoffs.

Leading the charge for the Texans will be rookie quarterback Davis Mills, who replaced veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor after he was benched during last week’s shutout loss to the Indianapolis Colts. It says a lot about the kind of year the Texans are having when they believe a rookie who is 0-6 with one more interception (eight) than touchdown passes (seven) is thought to give the team their best shot at winning.

This will be Seattle’s first trip to H-Town since 2013, the electrifying 23-20 overtime win sparked by Richard Sherman’s pick-six to tie the game.’

For the first time all year, the Seahawks have a little bit of mojo going into a game. Their wild win over the 49ers staved off playoff elimination for at least one more week, and now they begin a final stretch of opponents which include Houston, Detroit and Chicago.

Again, their playoff chances are not realistic. But the Seahawks can only take it one game at a time and their next one is one they should win handily.

Russell Wilson finally looks back to his normal self and the defense is still playing reasonably well. The Texans are a mess with not much to play for except a better draft pick. Expect the Seahawks to earn their first win streak of 2021.

Prediction: Seahawks over Texans 31-21.
