A few days ago, the Seahawks were supposed to be the favorites around the NFL to trade for Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson. It’s probably for the best, but it seems Seattle is now out of the running.
According to John McClain at the Houston Chronicle, Watson has rejected the idea of playing for the Seahawks. Not long after, Dianna Russini at ESPN reported that Seattle has no plans to meet with Watson right now.

Watson seems to have narrowed his choices down to the Saints and the Panthers, but the Browns may also be in the mix.
As for the Seahawks and their search for a new franchise quarterback after agreeing to deal Russell Wilson to Denver, there are still several decent options out there. Yesterday, Teddy Brigewater (Dolphins) and Mitch Trubisky (Steelers) were the only free agent quarterbacks to sign with new teams. Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Tyrod Taylor and Jacoby Brissett are still out there – as is Colin Kaepernick, who spent yesterday throwing to Tyler Lockett and his brother.
As far as trade options go, Baker Mayfield of the Browns has been mentioned, as has Kirk Cousins of the Vikings. However, Cousins has agreed to another one-year fully-guaranteed extension with Minnesota, making that a less-likely scenario. It’s also tough to see Pete Carroll embracing Mayfield’s kind of style. Our best guess is that Carroll wants a game-manager type QB who’s more like Cousins, making Derek Carr of the Raiders the most logical option. He’s entering the last year of his contract.
That said, we would much rather see them pursue either Ryan Tannehill of the Titans or Gardner Minshew of the Eagles.
