Scouts who have been down to Kentucky …

Scouts who have been down to Kentucky have been very impressed with TyTy Washington, and it has led them to go back through his prep tape and wonder how he wasn’t more highly thought of as a recruit. Washington has some real athletic limitations in terms of explosiveness, but he is an exceptionally smart basketball player who processes the game well beyond his years. He makes ridiculously high-level passes and has just enough size to play both on- and off-ball as a lead guard at 6-foot-3 with something in the range of a 6-foot-10 wingspan. His handle and ability to separate is real despite that lack of burst. And on top of it, he’s really hit shots from distance early on. He’s my favorite to be the top lead guard taken right now. I have him at No. 7 on my board and I’d bet I’m higher on him than most public-facing boards. To me, he profiles as the kind of guy that just impacts winning basketball at a high level.
