The Brooklyn Nets have been having a solid offseason thus far as they have taken care of business with the draft and in free-agency. Now, it looks like one of their most important players will be getting all of his money next season.
According to a report on Monday by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Nets are fully guaranteeing forward Royce O’Neale’s 2023-24 salary of $9.5 million. O’Neale, 30, averaged 8.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 38.6% from the field and 38.9% from three-point land last season for Brooklyn.
Given all of the wing depth that the Nets currently have led by Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson, Brooklyn has been reportedly trying to trade O’Neale for a first-round pick in return. The 2022-23 season was an interesting one for O’Neale as he was the starter in 52 of Brooklyn’s first 55 games (was inactive for three games during this span), but lost his starting job once the team traded away Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
O’Neale’s numbers was better across the board than what he did as a member of the Utah Jazz (2017-22) except for his efficiency. Through five seasons with the Jazz, the former Baylor Bear shot 44.8% from the field, 38.1% from three, and 79.6% from the free-throw line.
The Brooklyn Nets will fully guarantee Royce O’Neale’s $9.5 million salary for the 2023-24 season, league sources told @hoopshype. O’Neale, a versatile swingman and defender, played in 76 games for Brooklyn last season averaging 8.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
