Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey on Thursday were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for February.
Barnes became the 10th rookie in franchise history to win the award after averaging 15.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals on 54% shooting from the field in 12 games. He became the first rookie since Shaquille O’Neal in the 1992-93 season to record at least 25 points, 15 rebounds and five steals in a game on Feb. 28.
Giddey, 19, took home the honor in the Western Conference for the fourth straight time this season after posting 16.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists in 10 games. He joined Oscar Robertson (1960-61) as the only two rookies to record three consecutive triple-doubles and tied Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic for the most by a teenager (4).
