Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Scott Turner isn’t shy about the fact the team is looking to add some talent to the attack.
And it’s all in the name of helping along Dwayne Haskins.
“We’re going to try and get as much talent as we can on offense,” Turner said, according to ESPN’s John Keim. “You look at that in different ways, obviously what is on the roster currently, but then we will look in free agency and we’ll look in the draft. We’re open to all of that.”
First, the Redskins will have to decide what to do with Adrian Peterson’s option and whether or not to retain pricey, not-so-effective veterans like Paul Richardson and Jordan Reed.
But the current nucleus is otherwise encouraging, if not limited. Terry McLaurin is a clear breakout No. 1 receiver to build around and Derrius Guice has clear every-down potential if he can stay healthy.
From the sounds of it, free agency and the draft will play a big part in building up the rest of the unit. There are plenty of talented wideouts in a free-agent class headlined by A.J. Green, as well as plenty of talented tight ends. Washington has plenty of ways to add via the draft, too.
Keep in mind Ron Rivera and Turner still need to fix the trenches, meaning making a decision on Brandon Scherff and wooing Trent Williams back. But the line is certainly included when Turner speaks on adding talent to the offense, too.
