Depth should not be an issue in Colorado football’s defensive secondary this upcoming season.
Along with returning key starters Travis Hunter, Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and Shilo Sanders, the Buffs acquired talented transfers Preston Hodge (Liberty Flames), DJ McKinney (Oklahoma State Cowboys), Colton Hood (Auburn Tigers), Savion Riley (Vanderbilt Commodores/Miami Hurricanes) and several others. Consequentially, head coach Deion Sanders and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston will have many different options to play with.
From Riley’s perspective, CU’s secondary is meshing well as the Buffs’ season opener against North Dakota State approaches.
“Our secondary is nice, I can’t lie,” Riley told Buffaloes Wire. “We’re coming together. We got Preston (Hodge), my boy Cam (Silmon-Craig), Shilo (Sanders). We got a lot of pieces everywhere — Trav (Hunter). I don’t really see that many weaknesses. There’s a lot of key players everywhere, and it’s going to be fun.”
Riley, a safety who was briefly committed to Miami this offseason, could be one of Colorado’s top tacklers in the secondary. With the Commodores last season, he totaled 48 tackles, including a career-high 12 against the Florida Gators.
