Saquon Barkley is on a mission this season, and he’s hoping to replicate the impact that Christian McCaffrey made on the 49ers offense and entire organization after he was traded from the Carolina Panthers.
After the Eagles’ Thursday morning practice, Barkley gave insight into his goals and broke down what he could bring to the Philadelphia offense.
“I decided to come to this team because I knew this team could help me with my legacy for my career,” Barkley told Fox Sports Ralph Vacchiano after his first training camp practice as an Eagle on Wednesday. “And I know we have an opportunity to go out and win games.”
Since joining the 49ers, a once injury-prone McCaffrey has played in 27 games, logging 2,205 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns while catching 119 passes for 1,028 yards. Last season, for the Super Bowl runner-ups, McCaffrey had an NFL-best 1,459 rushing yards and 67 catches for 564 yards and 21 total touchdowns.
Barkley rushed for just 962 yards while playing only 14 games last year, but he should easily surpass that number running behind the Eagles’ powerful offensive line.
