Santa Clara junior Jalen Williams to hire agent, remain in NBA draft

Williams was among the standouts at the draft combine and will now forgo his remaining college eligibility.

Santa Clara junior Jalen Williams will reportedly sign with an agent and remain in the 2022 NBA draft, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Williams, who was named to the All-WCC first team, averaged 18 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 33 games. He ranked second in the conference in scoring and finished eighth in program history with 594 total points on the year.

The 6-foot-6 guard declared for the draft prior to the early entry deadline while maintaining the option to return to school. He will forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility by signing with an agent, ending his tenure with the Broncos.

Williams emerged as perhaps the top player at the draft combine last week in Chicago, Illinois. He averaged 15 points, four rebounds and one assist in two scrimmage games. He showed he can do a little bit of everything and solidified himself as a borderline first-round pick.

The 21-year-old climbed draft boards for much of the year and continued that momentum into the combine. He likely earned himself more workouts following that outing and could continue to rise up in the draft, as a result.
