Sanaa Lathan sitting courtside at a Sparks game inspired so many Love and Basketball jokes

That’s Sparks legend Monica Wright-McCall to you.

Sanaa Lathan recently attended a Los Angeles Sparks home game, and the Love and Basketball storyline jokes immediately started flying.

In case you’ve never seen the classic movie Love and Basketball — what are you doing with your life if you haven’t? — Sanaa played a character, Monica Wright, who made a career out of hooping. She eventually marries her long-time love, Quincy McCall, and has a child. The movie ends with a scene of Monica playing for the local WNBA team — the Los Angeles Sparks — and Quincy cheering for her while holding their daughter.

Fast-forward several years, and Sanaa Lathan fantastically (and perhaps intentionally) added to the movie’s storyline by sitting courtside at a Liberty-Sparks matchup with its director, Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Of course, fans had a ball with the footage of Sanaa chilling in L.A. and dropped a ton of wonderful Love and Basketball-themed jokes.
