San Diego State closes out Mountain West playing to clinch the West division of the Mountain West. There’s a lot of history siding with the Aztecs owning a 6-0 record in Hawaii since the Warriors joined the Mountain West.
The Aztecs have a championship game they’re after and prefer a meeting at the Las Vegas Bowl than another bowl game in Texas.
As for the game itself San Diego State isn’t expected to put up 30+ points and come away with a victory.
The marquee matchup features the Aztecs defense against Cole McDonald. The Aztecs defense hasn’t given up more than 23 points (the loss against Utah State) this season, but the Hawaii offense has been lighting it up with an average of 35.8 points a game.
The Aztecs’ vulnerabilities are allowing big plays down the field and Cole McDonald will make sure the exploit that. The silver lining for the Aztecs is that they are all ball hawks. The Warriors have thrown 15 picks this season and the secondary can’t wait to grab more interceptions.
The kicker to all this hype, for those of us on the mainland, is a shoddy Facebook stream thanks to a poor deal by the Mountain West. The visiting team will have to flock…to their phones and tablets?
Bad look for the entire conference that its biggest regular-season football game is not on TV on the mainland. https://t.co/1zqs5IB6uw

In a time of insane deals for college football on tv, the Mountain West receives scraps. The clinching game for the Aztecs in the market is not being carried locally. Only the future will tell if commissioner Craig Thompson remedies this problem for mainland teams who play in Hawaii.
Prediction:
San Diego State will struggle early because of McDonald’s big-play passes. It’ll be an uphill battle that will need San Diego State to manage the clock and run the ball strong. Hawaii’s suspect defense will allow Ryan Agnew to throw for close to 300 yards, and the Aztecs will get a 100-yard rusher. By the time the 2nd half hits it’ll be too much to handle for Ryan Agnew.
San Diego State 27, Hawaii 31
