San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The San Diego Padres (32-19) host the Seattle Mariners (22-28) Friday night in the first game of a three-game set in which the Mariners will serve as the official home team. The first game of the series at Petco Park starts with first pitch set for 9:40 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Padres-Mariners MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Padres at Mariners: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Chris Paddack vs. LHP Yusei Kikuchi

Paddack has logged a 4.74 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 10 starts. The 24-year-old went just two innings in his last start (Sept. 10) due to an ankle sprain. He’s expected to be ready for Friday’s start.

  • Paddack has battled problems allowing hard contact and especially the kind that lands on the other side of the outfield fence with a 2.0 HR/9. He has pitched a bit better of late, a trend that has been masked by a high BABIP over recent starts.

Kikuchi owns a 5.35 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 7 starts.

  • Deserving of a better fate than a 5-something ERA. The 29-year-old Mariners port-sider has been undone by an unusually low left-on-base percentage (53%) and a .320 BABIP.

Money line (ML)

The money line here contains a lot of juice, and it brackets value either way. Pass on SEATTLE (+165).

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Mariners returns $16.50 profit.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The more likable play is SEATTLE +1.5 (+100). The Paddack return from injury creates a question mark, as does the Padres’ collective frame of mind in coming off a key series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mariners are at their best against right-handed pitching, and the Padres are turned around to their lesser splits against port-siders.

The San Diego bullpen is dinged up, and Kikuchi figures to be overlooked on the home side.

Over/Under (O/U)

The low side of the 8.5 has a slight lean. The UNDER 8.5 (-110) is perhaps worth an undercard (or partial-unit play) alongside the run line action.
