Prediction

Padres 7, Diamondbacks 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Padres (-118) had a promising start to the season but are 4-6 in their last 10 games, including a four-game losing streak.

The Diamondbacks (+105) have looked better recently, going 7-3 in their last 10 games, and have won four out their last five games, which includes both games in this series and a 2-1 series win over the Colorado Rockies in their last series.

Ray has gotten shelled recently, giving up 17 earned runs in 13 ⅓ innings pitched over his last three starts. Also, Ray performs worse at home than on the road for his career. He has a 4.90 ERA and 1.48 WHIP at home compared to 3.66 ERA and 1.27 WHIP on the road.

BET the PADRES (-118) to bounce back against the Diamondbacks. New to sports betting? A $118 wager on Padres (-118) yields a $100 profit if San Diego beats Arizona.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Again, don’t hold my moneyline handicap against me, but I’ll AVOID A RUN LINE WAGER in Padres-Diamondbacks. San Diego has a 2-5 run line record as an away favorite, and the “backdoor cover” on a Padres run line is wide-open with Yates’ injury hurting the bullpen.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL in Padres-Diamondbacks. The total is set at 9.5, and my handicap has it going a half-run Under, but I don’t feel strong enough about that to bet it.

Both bullpens are bad:  Padres relievers have a 6.24 ERA, and Diamondbacks relievers have a 5.04 ERA. I do expect a good outing from Richards, but Arizona could mount a comeback once it reaches San Diego’s bullpen.
