San Antonio Spurs rise in new offseason NBA power rankings

With CP3, Harrison Barnes, Stephon Castle, and Harrison Ingram joining the team, San Antonio may threaten to make the play-in tournament.

The San Antonio Spurs made some impressive moves to add veteran talent and quality draft picks to their roster so far this 2024 NBA offseason. And their efforts have seen the storied ball club take a notable jump up in the newest power rankings from Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey.

With Chris Paul, Harrison Barnes, Stephon Castle, and Harrison Ingram joining the team this offseason, San Antonio may threaten to make the play-in tournament. Or perhaps even the postseason outright if things go well early and more moves are made by the 2025 trade deadline. “Victor Wembanyama is already a top 10-15 player, and losing with that kind of player takes some effort,” writes Bailey.

“With veterans Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes coming over now, it’ll be harder to find … tank-worthy trios (barring injuries, of course),” he adds.

“And the Spurs still have a boatload of draft assets to use in a win-now trade,” echoes the B/R league analyst.

“If they’re competitive in the first couple months of the season, San Antonio might be able to get back into the play-in mix.”

The Spurs earned a No. 20 overall ranking as a result of this analysis, placing the team just ahead of the humbled Los Angeles Clippers and just after the sliding Miami Heat.
