San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Clippers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Clippers NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The San Antonio Spurs (2-4) tangle with the Los Angeles Clippers (5-2) Tuesday at the Staples Center in a 10 p.m. ET game. Below, we analyze the Spurs-Clippers NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

San Antonio is on a four-game losing streak (2-2 ATS) that includes a 130-109 beatdown administered by the Utah Jazz Sunday. The Spurs played some tough competition, though, losing to the winning teams such as the Lakers, Pelicans and aforementioned Jazz.

The Clippers dominated the Suns 112-107 as 3.5-point road favorites in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score indicates. At one point Los Angeles was up 31 points partially due to the Clippers making 58.6% of their threes.

Los Angeles won last season’s head-to-head series 3-1 but only covered in two of those wins.

Spurs at Clippers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clippers 115, Spurs 110

Money line (ML)

Slight lean on Spurs (+350) because I am taking them plus the points, and generally I’d like to sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover. Truth be told, the Clippers should win so feel free to PASS and bet the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

Spurs’ former All-Star SG DeMar DeRozan has held his own against Kawhi Leonard since they were traded for one another in the 2019 offseason and in Kawhi’s first season in Los Angeles. DeRozan actually averages more points per game than Kawhi in their 14 head-to-head meetings, according to LandOfBasketball.com.

Also, BetMGM is just way too thirsty here: According to Pregame.com, more than 90% of the money wagered has been on the Clippers so far yet BetMGM isn’t dropping its price to bet Los Angeles. What that tells me is that the House is very comfortable with where they set the line and are willing to take pro-Clippers action.

The one basketball thing I’ll point to that maybe BetMGM sees as being misconstrued is San Antonio’s 3-point defense vs. Los Angeles’ 3-point shooting. While the Spurs are 29th in opponents’ 3-point percentage, they are fourth in opponents’ 3-point attempts per game, which means they are at least trying to close out on threes.

The Clippers are second in 3-point percentage, which could make this a bad spot for the Spurs, but if San Antonio contests threes and Los Angeles has an off-shooting night, this could be a game San Antonio steals.

GIMME SPURS +9.5 (-110) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

If Los Angeles’ offense is knocking down threes it’s hard to see San Antonio keeping up. Since we took the Spurs plus points, I’ll lean UNDER 227.5 (-105). It’s noteworthy that the market is hitting the Over, though, and I don’t have a strong enough handicap on the total to fade the market. My favorite play in Spurs-Clippers is San Antonio to cover.
