When Sammy Guevara posted his latest vlog to his YouTube channel today, many fans were hoping it would provide some insight into the now infamous media scrum and behind the scenes altercation between CM Punk, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, especially since it was provocatively titled “Fight Backstage.”
Spoiler: It did not.
What it did do, however, was provide an up close and not often seen detail of the damage pro wrestlers do to their bodies in service of entertaining the fans. In this case, that meant Guevara getting staples in his head to take care of a cut in the right side of his head suffered during his mixed tag team match on the All Out Zero Hour pre-show.
The vlog isn’t for people with a fear of needles or blood, as it shows Sammy getting a shot to numb him up, then the three staples actually inserted into his scalp.
You can watch the whole thing here, starting at about the 22:20 mark.
For what it’s worth, Sammy at least suffered through the staples in a winning effort, as he and wife Tay Melo successfully defended the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship against Ruby Soho and Ortiz.
Guevara’s ho hum attitude about needing staples in his head is pretty par for the course for people who choose his life, but it’s no less impressive as he simply prepares to move on to Buffalo with Melo and their cats. It’s a little thing that can’t help but give you even more of an appreciation about what they go through on a weekly basis, and how lucky we are as fans they they do it.
