Sam Pittman would like transfer portal sessions to end sooner

Sam Pittman believes the NCAA transfer portal remains open too long and said as much on the Paul Finebaum Show.

Surely it can be agreed that the transfer portal needs some adjustment, and Sam Pittman was vocal about one of the changes he would like to see when he was a guest on The Paul Finebaum Show Tuesday.

According to Pittman’s philosophy, the time for a player to enter the transfer portal should be shorter to allow for quicker decision-making. He believes that players who intend to transfer know their plans early on.

“I personally believe it’s open too long,” Pittman said during a Tuesday appearance on the Paul Finebaum Show. “I think it needs to close down. I think kids who go in the transfer portal know they’re going to transfer way faster than 45 days.”

Currently, there are two transfer periods, in the winter and after spring practices. After the 2022 season, the portal was open from December 5 to January 18, then reopened from April 15 until April 30.

Arkansas was a victim of the portal after the 2022 season when only 48 players were on scholarship for the team’s final game in the Liberty Bowl. Still, Pittman has done a great job working the portal during his tenure at Arkansas.

Pittman did not specify how long he wants the portal to remain open but hopes for a change.
