The 2022 NFL Draft is just over a month away as pro days continue on for college prospects. For the UNC football program, they have a few players that should hear their name called in April’s draft headlined by quarterback Sam Howell.
After three seasons in Chapel Hill, Howell is off to the pros and is joining a quarterback class that has a lot of questions surrounding it.
Depending on who you ask, Howell has a grade anywhere from a first-round pick to a day two selection. Most mocks have him going late in the first round behind Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis and even Matt Corral in some.
But in the latest mock draft from Pro Football Focus, Howell is slipping out of the first round and falls to the New York Giants in round two at No. 36 overall. He’s the fourth quarterback selected going behind Willis, Pickett and Corral.
Howell would love to be a first-round pick but maybe falling to New York isn’t a terrible thing. The Giants just hired Brian Daboll who worked with Josh Allen in Buffalo and he has experience with Alabama as well, working with their quarterbacks.
The rookie could also contend for the starting spot early as the team isn’t clearly sold on Daniel Jones just yet. But the good news for Howell is that there’s a lot of time between now and April including his pro day to improve his stock.
