Sam Cassell on working with Joe Mazzulla, Jayson Tatum, and his unique celebration

You know the one we mean.

Ever wonder what it is exactly that Sam Cassell does in his new gig as an assistant to Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla? In a recent episode of the NBC Sports Boston “Celtics Talk” podcast episode, Cassell spoke at length about his role with the team, his thoughts on his own past championship experiences, and more.

Cassell touched on coaching Jayson Tatum as one of the league’s top players with considerable potential for growth, and spoke on internal player development as well as his recent eyewear endorsement as a coach for Boston, a very unusual situation around the league given it’s usually the players in commercials between timeouts.

Cassell also credited much of the team’s recent success to Mazzulla, suggesting he is one of the league’s most underrated coaches.
