The Jets made their big splash Tuesday, acquiring wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders for a conditional third-round pick.
With the Jets taking on his contract, let’s take a look at how their salary cap looks (numbers via Spotrac).
Adams is still owed a base salary of $11.59 million for this season, of which $11.26 million is guaranteed. The remaining $330,000 comes in the form of per-game roster bonuses ($30,000 each game). Adams’ cap hit currently sits at $11.26 million and will go up by $30,000 for each game he is active.
Adams is also due base salaries of $35.64 million in each of the next two seasons, which will almost certainly be re-negotiated if the Jets are to keep Adams after this season. It is important to note that not a single dollar of that $71.28 million is guaranteed. The Raiders took care of the majority of the guaranteed money early in his contract.
The Jets now have about $6 million in cap space following the Adams acquisition.
Adams has the fifth-highest cap hit on the team, behind DT Quinnen Williams ($20.4 million), QB Aaron Rodgers ($17,161,112), CB DJ Reed ($15,636,165) and WR Allen Lazard ($12,184,000).
Spotrac projects the Jets to have almost $39 million cap space for 2025, which includes the almost $36.25 million current hit for Adams. But that’s a decision for down the line. The important piece right now is the Jets have a legitimate running mate for Garrett Wilson…or is it Wilson is now the running mate for Adams?
Either way, it’s a nice pairing in New York.
