The NFL trade deadline is nearly upon us, prompting the New Orleans Saints to trade for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander. While the full details of the deal are unclear, ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that Alexander is being swapped for a conditional fifth-round pick and likely a Saints player. Schefter first reported the trade, which was confirmed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Alexander is a familiar name in New Orleans; he starred for the LSU Tigers in college and started in 46 games for the NFC South-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2015 to 2018. But an ankle injury kept him on the sidelines in 2020, making him available in San Francisco.
In five games this year, Alexander has been credited with 30 tackles (22 solo), a sack, and a forced fumble. expect Alexander to immediately push for starting snaps next to weakside linebacker Demario Davis in the Saints defense. He made the Pro Bowl back in 2017, a year after he led the NFL in solo tackles (108).
