Saints select DL Bryan Bresee with Dolphins’ pick traded for Bradley Chubb

The pick was sent to New Orleans from Denver for Sean Payton.

The Miami Dolphins didn’t have a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, as they were stripped of pick No. 21 due to their tampering with now-retired quarterback Tom Brady, and pick No. 29 was sent to the Denver Broncos in a trade for linebacker Bradley Chubb.

No. 29 then was sent to the New Orleans Saints for head coach Sean Payton. With that selection, the Saints drafted Clemson defensive lineman Bryan Bresee.

Interior defensive line isn’t necessarily a 2023 need for the Dolphins, but with Christian Wilkins, Zach Sieler and Raekwon Davis all currently set to hit the market next offseason, they’ll need to address the position soon.

Other players at positions of need that would’ve been available for Miami include tight ends Michael Mayer and Darnell Washington as well as guard Steve Avila.

However, general manager Chris Grier, head coach Mike McDaniel and new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio are probably pretty happy to have Chubb in their front seven for the foreseeable future opposite up-and-comer Jaelan Phillips.
