Saints projected to sign double-digit rookie free agents after 2023 draft

Between the players under contract and their number of picks, the Saints are projected to sign double-digit rookie free agents after the 2023 NFL draft:

The New Orleans Saints have a strong tradition of finding undrafted free agent talent, signing standout rookies from running back Pierre Thomas to tight end Juwan Johnson. Two undrafted rookies impressed last year in wide receiver Rashid Shaheed and offensive lineman Lewis Kidd. And they’re expected to be big players in the mad dash for undrafted players again in a few weeks.

Between their eight selections in the 2023 NFL draft and the 68 players under contract, the Saints are projected to sign 14 undrafted rookies by Over The Cap’s Nick Korte. That would get them to the 90-man offseason roster limit.

Now with that said, we shouldn’t expect the Saints to sign that many undrafted players. They’re likely waiting on the deadline for veteran free agents to count into the 2024 compensatory draft picks formula to pass on May 1 before making more moves in that market. Accounting for their current draft picks, they’ll have about $11.4 million to spend after the draft. But that will change if the Saints trade any of their picks to navigate the draft board. We’ll see how these resources are ultimately used but they’ll have plenty of options.
